Thrift Shop Gathering Organized by HerCampus and Eco Action
On Monday, October 28, 2024, students at Holy Cross University came together for the biannual Thrift Shop event, hosted by HerCampus and Eco-Action. The event, held in Hogan B/C, provided an opportunity for students to donate clothing on October 23 and October 24, and shop from 5-7pm on October 28.
Emma Weiss '26, Co-Chair of Eco-Action and a general member of HerCampus, emphasised the event's importance for sustainability and the environment. Fiona Smith '26, Co-Chair of HerCampus at Holy Cross, stated that the event aims to promote sustainability and give back to the community. Members of HerCampus feel that the thrift shop links their community together through shared interests and needs.
The Thrift Shop event is more than just a chance to acquire new clothing. It encourages a less consumer-based lifestyle, aligning with the Holy Cross mission of living for and with others. Students who participate in the event have the opportunity to fulfil this mission by donating clothing and shopping sustainably.
In addition to the Thrift Shop event, HerCampus and Eco-Action have collaborated on other initiatives. On November 9, 2022, they collaborated with ProspHER to host the 'Boss Babe Bootcamp' in the Hogan Ballroom. The event featured talks from three alumni, two from The Spire and one from HerCampus.
HerCampus and The Spire, two student journalism groups at Holy Cross, also hosted an event on March 22 to celebrate The Spire's centennial year. The collaboration between these groups highlights the strong sense of community at Holy Cross.
Interested students are encouraged to stay tuned for next semester's thrift shop to donate and find new staple outfits. By participating in events like the Thrift Shop, students at Holy Cross can continue to embrace sustainability and community spirit.
