In the heart of Monza, the second practice session of the Italian Grand Prix delivered a mix of highs and lows for the racing drivers.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes topped the leaderboard in the first practice session, finishing first and second respectively. However, the pecking order shifted slightly in the second session.

Leclerc, who reported having no grip during the session, managed a third-place finish, just 83 thousandths of a second behind Lando Norris in the McLaren. Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz was hot on his heels, finishing a mere 96 thousandths of a second behind the leader.

Meanwhile, Hamilton finished fifth in the second practice session, a far cry from his morning victory. His teammate George Russell fared better, securing a fourth-place finish, 0.181 seconds behind his teammate Oscar Piastri who finished fourth overall.

Piastri's teammate Isack Hadjar, the local hero for Toro Rosso, could only manage 11th place in the second practice session. Another notable performance came from Alexander Albon who finished seventh, while Max Verstappen ended up sixth.

The session was not without its share of drama. Kimi Antonelli, who had a promising start to the Italian GP with a fifth-place finish in the first practice, spun out and caused a red flag in the second practice session, finishing second to last. His spin in the Parabolica during the 2021 Italian GP was a reminder of his struggles on the Monza circuit.

Logan Sargeant, the driver who caused an accident during the second practice, leading to a red flag, and finished last in his home race, is yet another racer who had a challenging day.

Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth, while Gabriel Bortoleto ended up 12th. Bortoleto is under scrutiny for an overtaking manoeuvre under a yellow flag, adding another intriguing element to the day's events.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished 13th and 15th respectively in the second practice session.

As the Italian Grand Prix continues to unfold, the second practice session served as a preview of the close competition and unexpected twists that the race promises to deliver.
