Thriving Völklingen: City Utilities and Livable Values Corporation
In a joint effort to enhance the cityscape and promote local biodiversity, employees of Stadtwerke Völklingen and representatives of AG Lebenswertes Völklingen transformed two tree beds into blooming meadows on Wednesday morning. The action, undertaken under the motto "Together for more biodiversity", resulted in the creation of two more flowering areas for insects in the city.
Jörg Hartmann and Alexander Benzmüller, who have been actively involved in city beautification for years, oversaw the project professionally. Benzmüller, a representative of AG Lebenswertes Völklingen, emphasized the ecological and social benefits of the action, stating that it brought together committed employees from various fields and made an ecological contribution.
Participants worked with spades, earth, and seed to remove existing plantings, add fresh garden soil, and sow a multi-year, bee-friendly wildflower mix. The result of the action is two new areas that will not only be visually appealing but also contribute to local biodiversity.
The Stadtwerke and AG Lebenswertes Völklingen aim to monitor the development of the flowering areas for the benefit of nature and all Völklingen residents. The participants consider the action as a small but effective step towards enriching the cityscape.
New projects are already in the planning stage for the cooperation between AG Lebenswertes Völklingen and Stadtwerke. The cooperation between the two entities is planned to be expanded in the coming months, although specific names of the persons who will continue to expand this cooperation have not been disclosed yet.
The ecological initiative is part of a larger commitment by both organisations to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Residents of Völklingen can look forward to seeing more such initiatives in the future, as both organisations strive to make their city a greener and more biodiverse place.
