Throngs say goodbye to Armani as thousands depart
Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Passes Away at 91
Giorgio Armani, the legendary Italian fashion designer, passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday. His death was confirmed by Italian media outlets, following a decline in his health over several months.
Armani spent his final days in one of his villas on the French Riviera in Saint-Tropez before his passing. Known for his elegant designs, Armani founded Giorgio Armani SpA with his partner Sergio Galeotti in the mid-70s, and the company has since grown to be worth many billions.
The coffin of the fashion maestro now resides at the Teatro Armani, a venue where he had regularly presented his fashion shows. The hall where the coffin stands is dimly lit, illuminated by hundreds of paper lanterns, and a large screen next to a photo of Armani displays the words, "The legacy I wish to leave is one of commitment, respect, and attention to people and reality. That's where it all begins."
Thousands of people have paid their respects to Armani's coffin at the Armani headquarters in Milan, with the line of mourners stretching far out onto the street. Among them was designer Donatella Versace. There was much applause for the arrival of the coffin at the Teatro Armani. A bouquet of white roses lies on the coffin, a symbol of the love and admiration the world has for Armani's work.
An exhibition of Armani's life's work is set to begin in Milan this month, offering fans a chance to celebrate his legacy. However, Armani had announced his comeback for this month, but it never happened.
The funeral for Giorgio Armani is planned for Monday in a small circle. It is not yet known what will happen to the company after Armani's death. According to Italian media reports, Armani's will is to be opened within 14 days after the burial. The persons listed in Giorgio Armani's will to disclose his testament include Michele Morselli, who is assigned Italian government bonds worth nearly 32 million euros, 100,000 EssilorLuxottica shares valued over 26 million euros, and various personal items such as several vintage cars.
Armani lived in one of the most elegant streets of Milan, where he founded his company 50 years ago. He will be remembered as a pioneer in the fashion industry, leaving behind a legacy of elegance, commitment, and respect.
