Titel: Münster's Mathematician Lauded for Achievements

In a heartwarming ceremony in Münster, Mona Mallwitz, a talented young mathematician, was celebrated as the State Champion in the 2024/2025 Primary School Mathematics Competition in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

The momentous occasion was captured by Meike Reiners, who managed to perfectly encapsulate Mona's triumph in a photograph featuring the young champion and several dignitaries. The individuals present included the Mayor of Münster, Thomas Paal, a mathematics teacher from Mona's alma mater, the Norbertschule, regional coordinator Thomas Starke, the headmaster of the Pleisterschule, and Stefanie Buschmann from the city's school office.

Mona, who attended the Norbertschule prior to starting secondary school, impressed the judges with her exceptional mathematical skills. The annual competition, organised by the Ministry of Education of NRW, aims to foster a love for mathematics and identify and support gifted and enthusiastic students. It is open to any child, regardless of their previous academic performance.

The tasks in the competition are designed for children in the 4th grade. This year, the competition involved 33 primary schools from Münster with 1,299 children. In the final round held in April 2025, 1,300 children participated, including 88 from Münster.

Mona was awarded by Mayor Thomas Paal on August 28, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey. The image of her congratulation ceremony, owned by Stadt Münster, is being released as part of a press release. The public image is free of charge with this press release.

Mona is one of the 44 state champions in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Her victory in the competition not only showcases her exceptional mathematical abilities but also serves as an inspiration to her peers and future generations. The competition continues to play a vital role in nurturing young minds and fostering a love for mathematics.
