Today's New York Times Contains Clues and Resolutions for Sunday, September 7th Crossword Puzzle
In the captivating world of the game Pips, players are tasked with filling a grid of multicoloured boxes, each representing a condition to be achieved. The goal is to use every domino and achieve every condition properly to win.
Recently, a player embarked on a challenging journey through the game's difficult tier. The player, who referred to the game as a "good puppy," had a select number of dominoes to spend filling in the grid.
One of the player's initial assumptions was that Green equalled having to be 3's. However, they quickly realised that this wasn't the case and adjusted their strategy accordingly.
The difficult tier presented a unique set of conditions, including zig-zagging blue squares that must equal one another and the presence of symbols such as "less than" or "greater than." If there were multiple tiles with these symbols, the pip in those tiles must be greater than or less than the listed number, respectively.
The player demonstrated creativity and adaptability, rotating dominoes to fit where they belonged in the grid. For instance, the 0/3 tile from the Purple 15 group was placed with the double 5/5 domino and the 5/2 domino up into Dark Blue ≠.
Another interesting condition was the far left three purple squares in the difficult tier, which must not equal one another. The player also ensured that the two pink squares next to the purple squares equalled a total of 0.
The player's strategic placements led to the completion of various groups. For example, the Green = group was finished by placing the 3/5 domino from Green into Dark Blue ≠ and the 3/2 domino from Dark Blue ≠ into Orange 6.
One of the most intriguing groups in the difficult tier was a 15 group with a Dark Blue ≠ condition. The player strategically placed the 1/5 from Blue 2 into Purple 10 and the 4/1 domino into Orange 6, completing that group with the 1 going up into Blue 2.
The final domino, a 5/2 chip, was placed from Purple 10 into an open tile. With this move, the player successfully completed the difficult tier of Pips, demonstrating their mastery of the game.
Despite extensive search results, the author of the blog entry describing the solution to the difficult Pips puzzle remains unidentified. Regardless, the player's journey through the game of Pips serves as an inspiring example of strategic thinking and problem-solving.
