Swedish indie developer Something We Made is set to release a sequel to the 2021 cosy photography adventure game Toem. The team, having enjoyed working on the original, decided to create a follow-up, promising key improvements and changes that will elevate the gameplay experience.

Toem 2 retains the original game's monochromatic art style, but with a richer and more polished world. The static movement from the first game has been replaced with smoother mechanics, making the game feel snappier. The team has also made a significant upgrade in visual presentation, with the introduction of a first-person perspective camera in certain scenes, providing a more immersive experience.

The game is being developed in Unity, but the team started from scratch for the sequel. The art in Toem 2 is a mix of 2D and 3D, with the team having the manpower to handle 3D elements. The team has also developed custom tools for faster development since their debut game.

Toem 2 will feature two cameras working in real-time, allowing players to see indoor environments with visible walls from the first-person perspective and to view the background world when using the normal camera. This enhances immersion and visual contrast. The team did not feel the need to add color to Toem 2 as it would not make sense for the storyline.

No specific release date has been announced yet, but Toem 2 can be wishlisted on Steam. The team worked on various prototypes after their debut game but nothing stuck until they began working on Toem 2. The team has not mentioned any significant changes in the gameplay mechanics for Toem 2.

With a larger development team and more advanced 3D graphics capabilities, Toem 2 promises to be a visually richer, more immersive, and refined game world compared to Toem's original more simplistic art and camera mechanics. Stay tuned for more updates on the release of Toem 2.
