"Together with SV Solingen, a united front is formed to combat loneliness through an extraordinary initiative"
In the heart of Solingen-Mitte, the freshly renovated clubhouse at the Weyersberg sports facility will soon become a hub for social interaction and memory revival. The SV Solingen 08/10 e.V., a traditional football club with over a century of history, is spearheading this initiative.
The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is backing this endeavour as part of their campaign "Du+Wir=Eins - North Rhine-Westphalia against loneliness," contributing two million euros. This support is a testament to the widespread social problem of loneliness, affecting individuals, including those who were once actively involved in sports and socializing in their younger years.
Starting on Thursday, September 12, the club will host weekly meetings for former coaches, athletes, and members. The meetings, aimed at both men and women, will take place in a lively clubhouse near a sports facility.
For women, a separate weekly meeting will be held every Thursday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Card and board games, as well as exchange with athletes through parallel sports activities, will ensure sociability during these meetings. The Aiello family, volunteers at the club, will take care of refreshments during the meetings.
Men will have their own weekly gathering, scheduled for Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Bettina Heuschkel, from the TSV Röttingen club, has announced a separate weekly meeting for older athletes and former members, taking place every Wednesday at 3 PM. The connection to the hobby remains, even if one can no longer practice it oneself.
Anyone interested in exchanging ideas with like-minded people is welcome to attend one of the upcoming meetings. Prior, non-binding registration for better organization is appreciated. For more information about the meeting offers, contact Bettina Heuschkel at 0172 - 570 69 05.
These meetings are intended to provide social interaction, general exchange, and revival of memories. Loss of a spouse, illness, and retirement often lead to a loss of social contacts. These meetings aim to bridge this gap and create a sense of community among the former athletes and club members.
The SV Solingen 08/10 e.V. was formed by the merger of FC Britannia Solingen 08 e.V. and VfB Solingen 1910 e.V. in the summer of 2022. This new entity is now leading the charge in addressing the issue of loneliness within its community, offering a platform for social interaction and camaraderie.
