Top-tier Liberal Arts Institutions: Holy Cross Places 28th
In a significant development, the College of the Holy Cross has made a notable leap in the national college rankings. According to U.S. News & World Report, Holy Cross was ranked #28 among the best liberal arts colleges in 2025.
The Wall Street Journal, another reputable source, also recognised Holy Cross's achievements, ranking the institution at 65 among the top colleges in the U.S. The Journal ranks schools based on student outcomes, learning environment, and diversity. Holy Cross shares this prestigious list with esteemed institutions such as Colby College (64) and San Francisco State University (66).
The Princeton Review also acknowledged Holy Cross, ranking it among the 390 top colleges in the country. This recognition is based on student surveys and accounts for the top 390 institutions in the U.S.
The rise in Holy Cross's rankings is attributed to recent alumni outcomes and graduation rates. Last year, Holy Cross announced the most competitive admission cycle in its history, a trend that seems to have continued with the class of 2028 achieving new admission milestones. The overall acceptance rate for the class of 2028 stands at 21%.
President Vincent D. Rougeau celebrated Holy Cross's entry into the top thirty of the U.S. News & World Report rankings, expressing his pride in the institution's achievements. The admission cycle for the class of 2028 is ongoing, with the class yet to be fully admitted.
U.S. News ranked colleges based on 17 factors, including graduation rates, first-year retention rates, and borrower debt. The Wall Street Journal, on the other hand, collected a total sample size of 112,084 surveys to rank schools. Notably, both U.S. News and The Wall Street Journal no longer consider acceptance rates and alumni giving as factors in their rankings this year.
The rise in Holy Cross's rankings was reported by multiple news sources, marking a significant milestone in the institution's history. As the college continues to excel in various rankings, it solidifies its position as a leading liberal arts college in the United States.
