Tough departure looms for either Uganda, Algeria, or South Africa in the Group C stage of their competition
In the final group match of Group C in the 2024 CHAN Championship, Uganda's Cranes and South Africa face each other in a potential decisive clash in Kampala.
As it stands, Uganda leads the group with six points, having won two matches and drawn one. Their only setback was a 3-0 loss to Algeria in the opening fixture. South Africa, on the other hand, are tied with Algeria on points (5), but are behind on goal difference.
Guinea, who have shown flashes of brilliance, are fourth in the group with four points from four matches. They have a victory against Niger and a 1-1 draw with Algeria to their name. Niger, unfortunately, are technically out of Group C contention with just one point and have failed to score in three outings.
Algeria will be under pressure to deliver against Niger to avoid a shock exit. A win for Algeria would secure their qualification for the quarterfinals, regardless of the outcome of the Uganda vs. South Africa match.
However, a win for South Africa in their match against Uganda would see them qualify for the quarterfinals, regardless of Algeria's result. A draw could still see them through depending on Algeria's result against Niger.
For Uganda, a draw in their last group match against South Africa would be enough to qualify for the quarterfinals. Algeria's remaining match is against bottom-placed Niger.
The match between Uganda and South Africa in Kampala could decide the fate of the Cranes' dominance in Group C. It's a must-watch encounter that promises to be thrilling and intense.
