Tourists stranded at Nha Trang's Cô Tiên Mountain successfully rescued
In the picturesque coastal tourist destination of Nha Trang, located in Khánh Hòa Province's Bắc Nha Trang Ward, a rescue operation took place overnight. The operation was led by the Khánh Hòa Provincial Police, who deployed their Provincial Rescue Team to assist two stranded Russian tourists on Cô Tiên Mountain.
Cô Tiên Mountain, a popular hiking and camping spot, boasts three adjoining peaks that rise nearly 400m high. From the mountaintop, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the coastal tourist destination of Nha Trang. However, the steep and rocky hiking trails can become slippery at night due to dew or rain, posing challenges for hikers.
The stranded tourists had set out on a hike to Cô Tiên Mountain earlier in the day. As they ventured deeper into the mountain, they became disoriented and increasingly exhausted. The exact location of their predicament was communicated to the police by the owner of a rental apartment where the tourists were staying, who notified authorities late on Wednesday.
The rescue operation was not an easy task, given the challenging terrain and the need for precision in locating the tourists. Six rescue officers were deployed with local police and authorities to conduct search and rescue operations. Their efforts paid off, as the two tourists were found and brought to safety the following day at around 1am.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with exploring Cô Tiên Mountain without proper preparation and guidance. Local authorities have issued warnings to residents and visitors about the risks of hiking on Cô Tiên Mountain without proper research on the terrain and weather forecasts. They also advise against hiking without guides or proper equipment.
Previous cases of tourists getting lost while exploring Cô Tiên Mountain have occurred, highlighting the importance of heeding these warnings. Visitors are encouraged to prioritise safety and enjoy the beauty of the mountain responsibly. The successful rescue of the two Russian tourists will undoubtedly inspire confidence in the local authorities' commitment to ensuring the safety of all tourists in the region.
