Tournament 2026: Guinea-Bissau triumphs over Djibouti, maintaining hopes of advancing
The Guinean national football team is still in contention for a spot in the 2026 World Cup, currently holding third place in Group A of the African qualification process.
With two matches left in the qualification process, the team has amassed 10 points, thanks to recent victories. Defender Iano Imbeni scored in the 54th minute at the 24 de Setembro Stadium, securing a crucial point for Guinea in a hard-fought match. As it stands, Egypt leads the group with a commanding 19 points, while Burkina Faso is in second place with 14 points. Sierra Leone is currently fourth in the group with 9 points, and Ethiopia is fifth with 6 points.

It's important to note that at the end of the qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Africa, the four best runners-up from the nine groups will compete in a play-off to determine an additional qualifying team. This means that even though Guinea is currently third, they still have a chance to secure a spot in the World Cup through these play-offs.
