A traffic accident on the A1, which occurred on Monday afternoon, has resulted in minor injuries for several individuals and significant property damage. The incident involved a Mercedes and a Chrysler, with the Chrysler catching fire following the collision.
According to reports, the driver of the Chrysler was a 44-year-old man from Damme, while his 17-year-old passenger also sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Mercedes was a 47-year-old woman from Lingen. The driver at fault and her passenger also sustained minor injuries.
The collision caused the two vehicles to skid and collide with a truck. The truck was driven by a 53-year-old man, though his identity was not disclosed in the available reports. The incident took place on August 27, 2025, near St. Valentin, where the truck's crane hit an overhead gantry, causing major damage and rendering the vehicle no longer roadworthy.
The fire was extinguished by bystanders at the scene, and all injured parties were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance. Unfortunately, the Chrysler and another vehicle involved in the accident were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away.
The estimated property damage to the cars has increased to €38,000. The A1 was temporarily closed for accident investigation and vehicle recovery.
