Traffic Alert: The A3 junction, heading towards Oberhausen, will be shut down until mid-December.
The Solingen interchange on the A3, a crucial connection between the cities of Solingen and Langenfeld and the wider Ruhr area and Rhineland, will undergo a partial closure from March 2024, lasting approximately until autumn 2025. This renovation, originally planned for October 2023, has been postponed.
The Federal Highway Authority, responsible for the planning, building, operating, maintaining, financing, traffic management, and asset management of the federal highways, will oversee the renovation. The Rhine region branch of the Federal Highway Authority, with offices in Cologne, Essen, and Euskirchen, manages approximately 1,200 kilometers of highway along the Rhine corridor and in the western Ruhr area.
The renovation requires a particularly extensive plan to minimize disruption to traffic during the construction period. Traffic management will be adjusted in the area of the Solingen interchange during the restriction period.
Due to the renovation, restrictions on the A3 in the Solingen interchange area will result in bottlenecks during the coming week. Traffic heading towards Oberhausen will not be able to exit at the Solingen interchange, and traffic merging onto the A3 in the direction of Oberhausen will not be possible during this period.
To accommodate the closure, a detour for traffic coming from Solingen is via the L288 (Opladener Straße / Unterschmitte / Immigrather Straße) and the L403 (Bergische Landstraße) to the Langenfeld-Immigrath interchange. Another detour for traffic heading towards Oberhausen is signposted with a red dot, leading via the B229 / L402 (Hardt) and the L403 (Bergische Landstraße) to the A542 interchange Langenfeld-Immigrath.
Residential buildings are located within the on- and off-ramps of the Solingen interchange, necessitating special spatial conditions for construction work. Detailed maps for the detour routes are available to help navigate the changes.
The Federal Highway Authority, which operates more than 13,000 kilometers of highway network, making it one of the largest highway operators in Europe, is responsible for the renovation of the A3 between Leverkusen-Opladen and Hilden, including the renovation of the Solingen junction planned from March 2024 to autumn 2025. The authority overseeing the renovation is the Autobahn GmbH (Federal Motorway Company).
During this period, drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel to avoid delays. The renovation is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of the A3 and the Solingen interchange.
