Traffic management initiatives on A42 motorway: Latest speed monitoring updates for improved traffic flow in the motorway region
In the heart of the Münster motorway police's jurisdiction lies the key traffic hub, the Herne motorway junction. Recently, this junction has undergone significant changes, particularly on the A42, with extensive redesigns in traffic management.
One of the notable modifications includes the separation of lanes for both directions of the A42 for a short stretch. This change aims to improve safety and traffic flow within the large construction site.
The junction's speed limits are not arbitrary; they are carefully set for safety reasons. The speed limit within the junction is 60 km/h. However, last Sunday night, a car was recorded traveling at an alarming 155 km/h, far exceeding the limit.
The driver of the speeding car was promptly stopped and now faces a fine of 700 euros, two points on their Flensburg record, and a three-month driving ban.
The construction works in the area led to a closure of the A42 last weekend, from 15.08. to 18.08. One of the new additions after the on-ramp from Münster towards Duisburg is an additional on-ramp for the tunnel onto the Duisburg-bound lane.
As for the future, motorists can look forward to the opening of the new Baukau tunnel on Monday (18.08.).
For media inquiries, the Münster Police Press Office can be contacted at 0251/ 275- 1010, [email protected], or through their website. The junction's complex traffic management, including its various speed limits due to narrowed lanes, ongoing construction traffic, and frequently changing traffic management, makes it a challenging yet vital area for the Münster motorway police.
