Train Ride Disruption: Confrontational, Alcoholic Mother Barred, Youth Office Steps In to Safeguard Children

On the evening of July 10, a family altercation at the Federal Police Station Halle (Saale) made headlines after being reported by news aktuell. The incident, which took place on platform seven, involved a family consisting of the parents, two children, and a grandmother.

The mother, a 34-year-old woman, was heavily intoxicated and treated her two six-year-old children roughly. She allegedly shouted at them, pushed them, and even hit them. Her aggressive behaviour extended to railway employees, as she verbally and physically assaulted security personnel during a ticket check, resulting in the family being refused boarding.

In a desperate attempt to de-escalate the situation, the 59-year-old grandmother stepped in. However, she ended up being pushed over, causing her to fall and injure herself. The mother, in a further display of violence, deliberately threw luggage towards a federal police patrol, leading to her being brought to the ground and restrained. Her partner, a 45-year-old man, attempted to hinder the officers during the incident.

As a result of their actions, the parents received criminal charges for neglecting their parental duties, trespassing, insulting, causing dangerous bodily harm, resisting, and assaulting law enforcement officers. The little girls were temporarily taken into care by the relevant youth welfare office.

For inquiries regarding this incident, the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg can be contacted. They are responsible for investigating incidents involving the Federal Police.
