Latifah Abdu Transfers to Vancouver Rise Amidst Super League North Drama

In a surprising turn of events, Latifah Abdu, a key player for the Montreal Roses in the Super League North (SLN), has been transferred to the Vancouver Rise. The move, announced on Saturday, came after Abdu requested a contract release to pursue a career more aligned with her personal aspirations and playing style.

Abdu's departure comes at a crucial time for the Roses, who are currently tied for third place with the Ottawa Rapids, but with a game in hand. Vancouver, on the other hand, is two points behind Montreal and could have overtaken them with a win on Saturday night.

Before joining the Roses, Abdu played for several French clubs, including FC Metz (D2), RC Strasbourg (D2), Dijon FCO (D1), and En avant Guingamp (D1). She was recruited from France to join the Montreal Roses for the inaugural season in the SLN.

The non-participation clause agreed upon between the teams means that Abdu will not be expected to participate in the match in uniform due to the impending transfer. This clause was implemented to allow the Rise to adjust their strategies, as the teams face each other multiple times during the season, and Abdu knows the Roses' game model in depth.

The Roses had informed Abdu that they intended to exercise the option on her contract for the 2026 season. However, Abdu requested to leave earlier this month, citing a desire to "stay true to herself" without providing further details.

In a club statement, Abdu expressed her excitement about joining the Vancouver Rise. The Roses, in turn, praised Abdu for her contributions to the team and wished her continued success in the SLN. No details were provided on the transfer fees received by the Roses.

The transfer of Abdu was scheduled to take place during a 10:00 PM (ET) match between the two teams on Saturday night. The teams were originally scheduled to face off on August 30 and October 11 next.

Current Roses members published images of celebrations after a 2-0 win over the Calgary Wild, with captions that seemed to echo the situation. Charlotte Bilbault wrote, "Alone we go faster, together we go further."

The transfer was made "out of respect for her former team," according to sources close to the situation. The Roses and the Rise have yet to announce any official statements regarding the transfer fee or Abdu's future role in the team.
