Traditional Inn the Butz Secures New Ownership and Future
In a significant development for the city of Wörth an der Donau, it has been announced that a new owner has been found for the historic Butz inn. The Butz, a traditional inn with a butcher shop and guesthouse, is a cherished piece of Wörther history and identity, and its future has been a topic of concern for many locals.
Mayor Josef Schütz expressed his optimism about preserving the Butz's tradition under the new ownership. Matthias Kulzer, the new owner, shares this sentiment and is looking forward to working with the existing team at the Butz.
The district and the city of Wörth an der Donau joined forces to found a joint operating company to secure the continued operation of the Butz and protect approximately 30 jobs. District Councilor Tanja Schweiger expressed her gratitude for the support and commitment of all those involved.
Originally, the transfer of ownership was planned for January 1, 2023, but was delayed due to the corona pandemic and energy crisis, which made finding a tenant or buyer challenging. The Butz's operating area was part of the land purchased by the district for its hospital's expansion in 2019.
No public funds have been used in this investment, and the initial financing, including interest, ancillary costs, and rent, has already been repaid. This ensures that the Butz will operate independently, while still maintaining its traditional character, a key focus for both Matthias Kulzer and Mayor Josef Schütz.
Matthias Kulzer plans to bring more events, especially in the areas of culture and music, to the Butz, injecting new life into this historic establishment. He also expressed his intention to bring new additions to the Butz team.
Mayor Schütz expressed his optimism about the potential for new impulses at the Butz under the new ownership, seeing it as an opportunity to preserve the Butz's tradition while modernising its offerings. The planned sale of the Butz inn to Matthias Kulzer is scheduled for October 2025.
