Transnet and Tshipi Secure 10-Year Manganese Export Agreement

Transnet SOC Ltd and Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining have reached a significant agreement that will secure long-term logistics capacity for Tshipi, a major manganese producer in South Africa. The 10-year Manganese Export Capacity Allocation Agreement will provide Tshipi with long-term certainty on rail and port allocation, ensuring consistent delivery to international customers.

The Tshipi Borwa Mine, operated by Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining (Pty) Ltd., is one of the largest manganese exporters from South Africa. Located in the mineral-rich Kalahari Manganese Field in the Northern Cape, the mine commenced commercial production in 2012. This mine has consistently contributed to export earnings, employment opportunities, and socio-economic development in surrounding communities.

The agreement aims to unlock opportunities for economic development and industrial growth in South Africa. It underscores Transnet's role in enabling bulk commodity exports and facilitates Tshipi's ability to continue meeting rising global demand for manganese. This partnership between Transnet and Tshipi is a shared vision to secure South Africa's long-term position in the manganese supply chain.

Tshipi operates the Tshipi Borwa Mine, an open-pit manganese mine, and has a reputation for efficient, low-cost production. The mine's partnership with Transnet ensures it remains on a stable logistics platform, supporting growth ambitions.

Ms. Michelle Phillips, Transnet Group Chief Executive, emphasizes the value of the partnership, saying, "This agreement reinforces our commitment to supporting South Africa's competitiveness in international markets." Meanwhile, Mr. Ezekiel Lotlhare, Chief Executive of Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining, highlights the role of strong partnerships in Tshipi's growth as a leading manganese exporter.

The 10-year agreement with Transnet strengthens confidence in South Africa's ability to serve global manganese markets. It underscores Transnet's role in enabling bulk commodity exports and highlights the potential for continued economic development and industrial growth in the country.
