In an exciting turn of events, the city's anniversary celebrations will feature a unique blend of history and entertainment as Wanderkino, the mobile cinema that has been touring since 1999, graces our city.

Wanderkino, a recipient of the prestigious German Silent Film Prize in 2023, will be setting up shop in Berlin Square on September 9, 2025, at 8 PM, for the first screening during the celebrations. The evening will be filled with the charm of silent films, as "LIBERTY" featuring Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy from 1929 and "Sherlock Jr." featuring Buster Keaton from 1924 will be shown, complete with live musical accompaniment.

The event is a collaboration between the municipal department of culture, aiming to bring a touch of the past to the present. Admission to the Wanderkino events is free, making it an accessible treat for all.

On the following day, September 10, 2025, Wanderkino will move to the Evangelical Church in Friedrichsdorf. Here, film enthusiasts can look forward to the screenings of "Easy Street" by Charlie Chaplin, "Paris Sleeps" by René Clair, and "Honeymoon Hotel" by Buster Keaton.

The location transformation for Wanderkino is facilitated by an oldtimer fire truck, a Magirus Deutz, built in 1969, adding an extra layer of vintage charm to the events.

In addition, the municipal department of culture is presenting two evenings of silent films, each accompanied live by different instrumental ensembles led by Sebastian Pank (saxophone, bass clarinet) and Tobias Rank (piano).

Over the years, Wanderkino has toured annually throughout Germany and has received invitations to various countries, including France, Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Spain, Portugal, Senegal, Sweden, Denmark, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Uruguay, Bolivia, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Turkey, and Switzerland.

These special screenings are not to be missed, offering a glimpse into the golden age of cinema while celebrating the city's rich history. So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable evening under the stars!
