Triathlon Event: Key Moments and Road Closures for IRONMAN 70.3 Competition
Duisburg is set to host the IRONMAN 70.3 on Sunday, September 7. Over 2,000 athletes from more than 40 countries will participate in this challenging event, covering a total distance of 113 kilometers.
Race Schedule
The swimming portion of the race will take place at the rowing course, lasting from 8:00 to 9:45 AM. The run portion is 21.1 kilometers long and takes place through the sports park Duisburg along the rowing course. The cycling portion is 90 kilometers long and will take competitors from the sports park over the bridge of solidarity to Baerl, with the loop course being completed twice. The finish line is planned for around 12:00 PM in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena.
Road Closures and Disruptions
Spectators should expect disruptions along the race route due to temporary road closures from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM on the day of the competition. The streets in Duisburg will be closed from September 7, 2023, until 6:00 PM. This includes the entire 90 km cycling route, which will be completely closed to motor traffic for the day.
Specific closures affect city and tram lines U79, 901, and 903, as well as many bus lines. Traffic restrictions broadly cover routes along the cycling and running courses, including areas around the "Brücke der Solidarität" along the Rhine toward Moers.
For visitors to the sports park, please note the road closure information and avoid the affected areas during the competition. No detours will be signposted for road closures, so it is essential to plan your travel accordingly. Spectators are advised to check the event's website for the schedule of road closures before planning their travel.
Transition Area and Parking
The transition area for the race is located on the "P1" at the stadium forecourt. Please note that no parking will be allowed in the stadium forecourt on the day of the competition.

A strict no-parking rule applies in the stadium forecourt starting tomorrow, Thursday, September 4. The Bertaallee and parts of the Kruppstraße will be closed and inaccessible from approximately 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the day of the competition.
