Truck in Flames on Motorway 61: Overheated Trailer Truck Causes Single-Lane Road Blockade

On Thursday evening at around 9:00 PM, the Fire Department Bergheim was alerted to a fire incident involving a truck on the A61 highway towards Koblenz. The initial fire location was reported between the Bergheim and Bergheim-South exits.

The fire department promptly deployed approximately 30 personnel from the Bergheim, Glesch/Paffendorf units, and the full-time station to tackle the incident. Brandamtmann Ulrich Braun led the operations, and firefighters detected temperatures over 100 degrees Celsius. To cool the overheated brake, they used a fire hose.

The truck driver had already managed to extinguish the fire at the rear axle of his trailer using a powder extinguisher. However, the fire continued to pose a threat, necessitating the closure of one of the two lanes for the duration of the extinguishing operations.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the fire incident. The fire was reported to have been brought under control around 10:00 PM. The truck was escorted by the police to a parking lot at the Kerpen motorway interchange.

The name of the fire officer who led the firefighting operations at the A61 motorway at the Bergheim-Süd junction is not publicly available. For inquiries, contact Fire Department Bergheim Press Spokesperson Sebastian Draxl at 0151 59983940 or [email protected].

The fire department could not provide information on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. The truck was found about 500 meters past the Bergheim-South exit.
