Over the past week, tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have escalated, leading to a deadly conflict that has left at least 22 people dead and over 140 injured. The exact nature and location of the conflict are not specified, but it appears to have started on July 24.

In response to the conflict, Thailand launched air strikes on Cambodian military positions, while Cambodia used Grad multiple rocket launchers against Thai territory, including civilian infrastructure. This has resulted in the evacuation of around 140,000 residents of Thai border provinces from the conflict zones.

There is no information indicating that US President Donald Trump announced anything regarding peace talks with Bangkok and Phnom Penh specifically, but he did announce the resumption of trade talks with both countries. The U.S. has also announced increased tariffs on goods from Thailand and Cambodia, effective August 1.

In a positive development, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, which is set to take effect at midnight local time on July 29. The agreement between the two countries aims to halt hostilities and includes further de-escalation steps, such as talks between commanding officers of border districts from both countries.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Washington's participation in the peace process alongside Malaysia. A joint border issues committee meeting between Thailand and Cambodia is scheduled for August 4, where both countries are expected to discuss the details of the ceasefire and de-escalation steps.

It is hoped that this ceasefire will bring an end to the deadly conflict and pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. The international community will continue to monitor the situation closely and support any efforts towards peace and stability in the region.
