Trump encounters no lenient discourse from Wisconsin Conservative Commentator Sykes, as per audio recordings.

In the heat of the 2016 Republican primary election season, a significant interview took place on WTMJ Radio. Charlie Sykes, a Wisconsin conservative talker, questioned Donald Trump, marking the first time a conservative media figure dared to challenge Trump without appearing overly fawning.

The interview, broadcast on September 4, 2020, was direct and follow-up oriented, reflecting the style taught in most journalism schools. Sykes asked Trump challenging questions about his behaviour towards Ted Cruz's wife, Heidi Cruz.

One of the topics that sparked controversy was Trump's retweet of an unflattering photo of Cruz's wife. Trump stated that the retweet was done by someone else, but Sykes pressed him on the matter, comparing Trump's actions to those of a 12-year-old bully. Trump described his tweet as a "mild" response and even threatened to "spill the beans" about Heidi Cruz.

However, Trump was not pleased with the interview. He later referred to Sykes as a "total loser" on Twitter, showing his displeasure with the line of questioning.

Despite the backlash, many conservatives in Wisconsin are reportedly increasingly turned off to Trump, viewing him as a phony conservative wannabe. The interview serves as a reminder of the critical role media figures play in holding politicians accountable for their actions.
