Trump expresses dissatisfaction towards Ukraine news
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has taken a turn for the worse, with the capital city of Kyiv experiencing a significant attack overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. The attacks, which left at least 21 dead and many more injured, have been confirmed as having been carried out by Russia.
President Donald Trump has expressed unhappiness about the attacks on Kyiv, but has not explicitly stated whether he views Russian President Vladimir Putin as an impediment to achieving peace between the two nations. The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has confirmed Trump's displeasure with the attacks, adding that the President is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and wants the war to end.
General Keith Kellogg, the President's special envoy, has described the attacks as "egregious." The U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, has been highlighted in connection with the attacks.
The attacks on Kyiv represent Russia's largest attack on Ukraine's capital since the summit between President Trump and Russian President Putin on August 15. This escalation in violence comes as Ukraine has recently dealt a significant blow to Russia's oil refineries, taking out 20% of Russia's oil refinery capacity over the course of attacks throughout August.
In response to the escalating conflict, President Trump has given Russian President Putin a two-week deadline to achieve progress towards a peace deal with Ukraine. The deadline is set for next Friday, September 5. It remains to be seen whether this deadline will spur meaningful action towards ending the conflict.
The killing in Ukraine will continue as long as the war continues. It is hoped that the international community will come together to find a peaceful solution to this ongoing crisis and bring an end to the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
