Trump levies accusations against possibly illicit payments made to Beyoncé due to her backing of Kamala
In a five-day trip to Florida, former President Donald Trump visited his golf courses in Miami and found himself embroiled in a series of controversies. During the trip, Trump also met with Sir Keir Starmer and Ursula von der Leyen, with the meeting being framed as a relationship-building opportunity before Trump's official state visit in September.
However, the White House played down the significance of the meeting, suggesting that no major policy breakthroughs are expected. This comes amidst mounting pressure on Trump to release more details about his association with the late Jeffrey Epstein, with Trump having made unfounded claims about the Democrats and the allegations that the White House is withholding information linked to Epstein.
Trump's visit to Florida was not without its share of domestic controversies either. The former President has been plagued by allegations that he is using celebrity endorsements to bolster his 2024 campaign. Trump has accused Beyoncé of accepting millions of dollars to endorse the Democrats' 2024 campaign, a claim that Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, vehemently denied in November. Ms Knowles stated that Beyoncé did not receive any money for her endorsement of Kamala Harris.
Beyoncé did appear at a campaign rally for Harris in Houston, advocating for reproductive rights. The Harris campaign paid Beyoncé's production company $165,000 to cover costs, according to Federal Commission records. However, the Harris campaign has denied that Beyonce was paid for her endorsement.
Oprah Winfrey, who made a surprise speech at the Democratic National Convention in August 2024 and joined Harris onstage at a later event, was also targeted by Trump. Trump claimed that Winfrey received $3 million and Al Sharpton received $600,000 for their support of Kamala Harris. However, Oprah Winfrey's team was paid for their work on the live production of the event, and Oprah Winfrey herself confirmed that she did not receive any personal fee for her endorsement of Kamala Harris.
Trump's accusations against the television networking companies, including NBC and ABC, of being "political pawns" of the Democrat party and calling for their licenses to be revoked, were made on his Truth Social platform.
In the midst of these controversies, Trump also visited his golf courses in Scotland, where he met with Sir Keir Starmer and Ursula von der Leyen during his trip.
