Trump mulls over the option of launching military attacks on Venezuelan targets

The United States has taken a significant step in its campaign against drug trafficking in Venezuela, following a deadly strike on a vessel linked to cartels leaving the country on Tuesday. This event, according to multiple sources familiar with the administration's plans, is just the beginning of much larger efforts to combat the issue.

CNN reported that the U.S. is considering multiple military options against drug cartels in Venezuela, including potential strikes on targets inside the country to weaken dictator Nicolas Maduro. The Trump administration has labeled Maduro as a narco-terrorist linked to some recently designated cartels, which are also considered terrorist organizations.

The deployment of military power and the labeling of Maduro are part of the Trump administration's broader anti-narcotics mission. The U.S. has deployed 10 modern F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico for amphibious assault exercises, and has significantly increased its military presence in the Caribbean basin. This move is seen as a message to Maduro, although there is no clear evidence of other countries actively supporting the U.S. militarily in these operations or efforts to remove President Maduro.

The U.S. leads these military actions against drug trafficking primarily on its own. The Trump administration has doubled the reward for Maduro's arrest to $50 million, signaling its determination to bring him to justice. However, the larger efforts could potentially include the removal of Maduro from power, although this has not been confirmed.

The strike on Tuesday marked a significant escalation of the Trump administration's campaign against drug cartels in Venezuela. While the U.S. has been primarily focused on its own military operations, the potential for international collaboration remains unclear. As the situation continues to develop, the world will be watching closely to see how the U.S. and its allies address the ongoing drug trafficking crisis in the region.
