Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman, Black American, and Asian American to hold the post, has lost her Secret Service protection as of September 1, 2023. This development comes after her term as Vice President ended in January 2021, and the standard six-month coverage was not extended.

Harris served as Vice President alongside President Joe Biden from 2021, a role she assumed after being chosen as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential election in August 2024. However, she lost the election to former President Donald Trump.

During her tenure, Harris was the Democratic nominee for 107 days after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race. Her Vice Presidency marked a significant milestone, making her the first woman, the first Black American, and the first Asian American to hold the post.

In a statement, Kirsten Allen, a senior adviser to Harris, expressed gratitude towards the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to safety during Harris' time in office.

The loss of Secret Service protection does not mark the end of Harris' public engagements. In September, she is scheduled to embark on a 15-city book tour for her memoir, "107 Days." The tour will provide an opportunity for Harris to share her experiences and perspectives during her time in office and the 2024 election campaign.

While Harris has not confirmed her plans for the future, she has not ruled out a possible presidential bid in 2028. The upcoming book tour and her public appearances are likely to generate interest and speculation about her political future.

In March, Trump had ended protection for Biden's children Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, a move that raised concerns about their safety. However, Harris' Secret Service protection was extended to one year, until January 2026, by then-President Joe Biden.

The termination of Harris' Secret Service protection on September 1, 2023, is a significant milestone in her post-Vice Presidency life. As she embarks on her book tour and considers her future political plans, the public will continue to watch with interest.
