Trump to Engage in Upcoming Conversation with Putin
In a bid to deter Russia from attacking Ukraine once more, more than two dozen countries have pledged to join a "reassurance" force to be deployed in Ukraine after any potential peace deal. This development comes amidst growing concern that President Putin has no interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The pledged force aims to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, a move that has been met with resistance from the Kremlin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has rejected the idea of Western security guarantees for Kyiv, stating that such guarantees would not be suitable for Russia.
Pesov also expressed doubts about the effectiveness of foreign military contingents in ensuring security for Ukraine, a sentiment echoed in his previous statements.
The announcement was made after the Paris summit, where US President Donald Trump also scheduled a call with Russia's Vladimir Putin. This call follows the last talks between the two leaders in Alaska on August 15, 2025, which involved a nearly three-hour meeting without concrete agreements but were described as productive; further conversations were planned, including with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The call with European leaders took place after the Paris summit, with Trump making the announcement after speaking with Zelenskyy and other leaders. Trump's decision to schedule a call with Putin comes amidst heightened tensions, with alarm intensifying after Putin's visit to Beijing, where he vowed to continue fighting in Ukraine if a peace deal cannot be reached.
However, Peskov stated that talks with Trump can be arranged quickly if needed, suggesting a potential avenue for diplomatic resolution. Despite this, the future of Ukraine's security remains uncertain, with the potential for further conflict looming on the horizon.
As the world watches and waits, the focus remains on finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, one that provides security and stability for all parties involved.
