Trump's Israel-Palestine Peace Proposal Sparks Violence, Demands Hamas Surrender
President Trump's peace proposal for the Israel-Palestine conflict has sparked controversy and violence. It demands Hamas' surrender in exchange for prisoner release and aid, but offers no path to Palestinian statehood. Meanwhile, Israel's military operation in Gaza continues, with over 66,000 Palestinians killed and nearly 170,000 wounded, including many women and children.
Trump's proposal requires Hamas to release hostages, leave power in Gaza, and disarm. In return, Israel would release Palestinian prisoners and provide aid. However, it does not include a path to Palestinian statehood, a key demand of the Palestinian people. Israel's military has blocked the north-south route in Gaza, allowing Palestinians to flee only south from Gaza City. Egypt and Qatar have expressed discontent with the proposal, calling for further negotiations.
The violence in Gaza has been severe. At least 16 Palestinians were killed in recent airstrikes, including seven at a school sheltering displaced people and five around a water tank. Over three dozen more were wounded. The Israeli government has announced its intention to take over Gaza City militarily, effectively displacing its remaining Palestinian residents. Israel's defence minister has ordered all remaining Palestinians to leave, considering those who stay as militant supporters.
A flotilla of about 50 vessels carrying humanitarian aid is sailing towards Gaza, expecting Israeli interception. Thursday is Yom Kippur, a high Jewish holiday in Israel, with stores, businesses, and public transportation shut down. The conflict has also taken a toll on journalists. Palestinian freelance journalist Yahya Barzaq was among six killed in an airstrike while working for TRT, bringing the total journalist deaths to 189.
Trump's peace proposal has been met with criticism and violence in Gaza. Israel's military operation continues, with a heavy toll on Palestinian civilians. Humanitarian aid is on its way to Gaza, but its delivery is uncertain. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides dug in on their positions.
