Offensively, the Cubs were led by Michael Busch, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki, who each had two hits apiece. Kyle Tucker, on the other hand, was the standout player for the Rockies, going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Tucker has been in exceptional form recently, going 11 for 28 with three doubles, three home runs, and eight RBIs in his last eight games. He has also reached base in eight consecutive games, with hits in seven of those games.

The game was not without its dramatic moments. In the sixth inning, Tyler Freeman singled, Moniak tripled, and Goodman hit a sacrifice fly, reducing the Cubs' lead to 4-3. However, Daniel Palencia stepped up in the ninth inning, striking out two batters in a 1-2-3 inning for his 21st save in 23 chances. The highlight of Palencia's performance was a play between the mound and first base to retire Tovar in the ninth inning.

The victory keeps the Cubs two games ahead of San Diego in the race for the first NL wild-card spot. Meanwhile, the Rockies have now lost four games in a row and eight of their last nine.

Ezequiel Tovar had two hits for the Rockies, while McCade Brown struck out three batters and walked three in his appearance. The Cubs' Ezequiel Tovar and Colorado's Kyle Tucker each had RBIs in the game.
