The construction of Romania's M6 subway line is progressing steadily, with activity ongoing day and night. This significant infrastructure project, valued at RON 7.8 billion (excluding VAT), is set to connect central Bucharest to its main airports, Băneasa and Otopeni.

Currently, TBM "Sfânta Ana" is operational on Line 1, and it has been excavating under the city. So far, it has dug over 406 meters and installed over 265 rings, heading towards Băneasa Airport. Meanwhile, the tunneling machine started its segment on April 9, 2023, on Line 2, and it successfully completed the first tunnel segment between Tokyo and Băneasa Airport subway stations on August 19.

The M6 subway line will stretch over 14.2 kilometers and include 12 stations between 1 Mai and Otopeni Airport. The excavation of six stations and six interstation segments is part of the project, with TBMs taking on the task. In addition to TBM "Sfânta Ana," another machine, "Sfânta Maria," is also involved in the excavation of the underground tunnels for the M6 subway line.

The two tunnel boring machines used in the M6 metro project in Romania are named "Ciocan" and "Ruginoasa," and they have successfully completed the excavation of several kilometers of tunnels for the metro line. The Romanian transport minister, Ciprian Șerban, recently visited the construction site and noted the progress of the project.

Drilling on the first section of the M6 subway line began in April of this year. The M6 subway line will be a crucial addition to Bucharest's public transportation system, connecting the city centre with its main airports efficiently. However, no information about the completion date of the M6 subway line was provided in the latest updates.

The works are proceeding according to schedule, and the city of Bucharest is one step closer to having a modern and efficient subway system. The M6 subway line is undoubtedly a milestone in Romania's urban development, and its completion will undoubtedly improve the quality of life for many Bucharest residents.
