Turbines intended for transport along the Rīga-Kalnciems route throughout the summer.
A series of oversized transports carrying wind turbine structures is set to commence on June 4, making its way to the Laflora Energy wind farm in Kaigu bog, owned by AS Latvenergo. The convoy will travel on the Riga bypass (A4), the Ventspils highway (A10), and the regional road Kūdra-Kalnciems (P101), with two convoys scheduled for the day.
The first convoy, consisting of four to five trucks, will depart from Riga at 13:00. A second, smaller convoy will follow at 20:00. The structures will vary in size, with some potentially exceeding 5 metres in width.
Traffic may experience temporary slowdowns or stoppages during the transport, but no significant traffic restrictions are planned for the route. The special transport or a State Police escort will accompany the convoy to ensure safety. Large-size vehicles may maneuver at certain points, causing temporary delays.
The total number of structures to be transported is 528. These shipments are being handled by LVC, and the transportation process involves the use of heavy machinery and customized lifting solutions from companies like Kalmar. The maximum speed of the convoy will be between 70 to 80 km/h.
Designated stopping places for large vehicles are available along the route to minimise disruptions. The transport will occur up to twice a day, with the destination remaining the Laflora Energy wind farm.
This transportation marks an important step in the ongoing development of renewable energy infrastructure in Latvia. The wind farm, once completed, is expected to significantly contribute to the country's renewable energy goals.
