Turkey Falls Short in Thrilling FIVB Women's World Championship Final Against Italy
In a nail-biting final of the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship, the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team fought valiantly but ultimately came up short against Italy.
The match, played in a tense atmosphere, saw both teams displaying exceptional volleyball skills. Turkey's Eda Erdem contributed 19 points, Ebrar Karakurt 12, and Zehra Gunes 9 points, while Melissa Vargas scored a match-high 33 points for Turkey. On the Italian side, Paola Egonu scored 22 points, Sylla contributed 19, and Antropova added 14.
The first set was won by Italy 25-23, but Turkey responded emphatically by winning the second set 25-13. The third set was closely contested, with Italy eventually winning 26-24. Turkey then forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
However, Italy proved decisive in the final moments of the match, winning the fifth set 15-8 and securing the championship. Italy's 14 blocks in crucial moments played a significant role in their victory.
Despite the loss, the silver medal won by Turkey represents a milestone achievement. The Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team, coached by Daniele Santarelli, finished the tournament as runners-up. This is the first time Turkey has reached the World Championship final in its history.
The team can be proud of their performance, as they had more attack points (68) than Italy (59) in the final. Both teams capitalized on 20 opponent errors each.
With this result, Turkey further solidifies its place among the world's volleyball elite. The team can look forward to future tournaments with confidence, knowing they have what it takes to compete at the highest level.
