In a significant milestone for Turkey's defence industry, the first Altay Main Battle Tank (MBT) has commenced serial production at BMC's newly operational production facility in Ankara.

The state-of-the-art facility, designed and completed with the ability to quickly apply the world's most advanced technologies, houses both BMC Defense for Altay tank serial production and BMC Power for developing and producing the indigenous BATU power group.

Last year, BMC started producing domestic military engines at BMC Power, marking a crucial step towards self-sufficiency in military engine production. The BATU power group is currently undergoing testing alongside air defense systems and the Altay tank.

The tank factory, whose foundation was laid last Ramadan, has also started serial production. The production facility, considered a national responsibility and a source of national excitement, employs domestically produced industrial robots and utilizes next-generation production technologies.

The production process is proceeding smoothly, with tanks delivered for testing last year passing all capability demonstrations with great success. The BMC facility is producing not only the Altay tank but also the 8X8 ALTUG new generation armored combat vehicle.

The first Altay tank is expected to enter the Turkish army inventory this year, with the first delivery scheduled during the facility's official opening ceremony. Turkey plans to field the Akkor active protection system on Altay main battle tanks by 2025.

BMC Chairman Fuat Tosyali expressed pride in achieving Turkey's 100-year-old dream with the serial production of the Altay tank. After taking over the majority stake in BMC, the company approached the project with a focus on production in the right place and the right way.

The tank and new generation vehicles production facility in Ankara is serving as the backbone of Turkey's land defense industry. The facility's success underscores Turkey's commitment to developing its domestic defence capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.

Despite extensive research, the name of the president who supported BMC in the Altay Main Battle Tank production project could not be found in the available search results. Nonetheless, the project's progress and success are a testament to the collective efforts of the Turkish government, BMC, and the country's defence industry.
