Turkey trains and restructures Syrian military forces amidst escalating tensions with Israel
In a significant development, a training program has been initiated for Syrian soldiers, aimed at restructuring the Syrian army amid perceived threats from Israel. The program, which follows a model previously implemented in Somalia and Libya, will see Syrian troops receiving training from the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) in both Turkey and Syria.
The training center in Serinyol, Hatay province, will be the primary location for the Syrian soldiers' education. This facility, similar to those used for training Syrian opposition forces, will provide a closed, disciplined system for the soldiers to live, eat, and train.
The training in Turkey will include courses for Syrian soldiers, while after completing their courses in Turkey, they will continue their education under TAF supervision in Syria. The soldiers will receive the same training schedule as Turkish soldiers at the Serinyol center, with the duration of the courses matching the standard TAF program.
In addition to commando and infantry training, Syrian military students will be given the opportunity to attend Turkish educational institutions. Reserved quotas will allow them to attend Turkish war colleges and NCO schools.
The initiative was launched in response to a military training and advisory agreement signed between Turkey and Syria. Turkey is ready to establish a joint training center in Serinyol immediately upon an official invitation from Syrian authorities.
High-level talks between Turkey and Syria are expected to increase, including visits by Syrian Navy and Air Force commanders. However, the name of the commander of the Turkish Air Force who is allegedly supposed to travel to Syria in connection with negotiations between the two countries has not been disclosed in the available search results.
The program aims to help restructure the Syrian army, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to protect their nation. This move is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the relationship between Turkey and Syria.
