Turkish defense companies climb global rankings, placing in top 100
2025 Defense News Top 100: Turkey's Defense Sector Shines Amidst Global Giants
The annual Defense News Top 100 list for 2025 has been released, showcasing the financial might and growth of the world's largest defense companies. This year, five Turkish companies made it to the list, demonstrating the strength of Turkey's defense industry.
Leading the Turkish contingent is Roketsan, a company specializing in missile and rocket systems. Despite a 11.9% decline in defense revenue compared to the previous year, Roketsan still managed to secure the 71st spot with $1.55 billion in revenue.
Aselsan, another prominent Turkish company, ranked 43rd globally with a significant 22% increase in defense revenue. Aselsan, which specializes in communication systems, radar technologies, and electronic warfare solutions, generated $3.54 billion in 2024.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) also made it to the list, ranking 47th with a staggering 43% year-on-year growth. TAI's defense revenue reached $2.2 billion in 2024.
The other two Turkish companies on the list are ASFAT and MKE. ASFAT, which showed a significant growth, increased its defense revenue from $637 million to $1.28 billion, moving from 94th to 78th place. MKE, the state-owned manufacturer of ammunition and heavy weapons, moved up from 84th to 80th place, with a defense revenue of $1.2 billion, representing a 37% increase.
Together, these five Turkish companies generated over $10.7 billion in defense revenue in 2024.
The top 10 companies on the 2025 Defense News Top 100 list include six from the U.S., two from China, one each from the U.K. and France. Lockheed Martin maintains the top spot with $68.39 billion in revenue, followed closely by RTX in second place with $43.5 billion. Northrop Grumman ranks fourth with $36.6 billion, and General Dynamics ranks fifth with $36.5 billion. L3Harris Technologies ranks ninth with $16.98 billion in revenue, and Thales ranks tenth with $15.9 billion.
China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited ranks eighth with $22.4 billion in revenue, and China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation ranks third with $38.7 billion in revenue. Boeing ranks seventh with $31.75 billion in revenue, and BAE Systems ranks sixth with $36.3 billion in revenue.
Companies from countries other than Turkey and the USA represented in the top 100 largest defense companies worldwide in 2025 include CETC, Norinco, and Avic from China; Rostec from Russia; BAE Systems from the United Kingdom; Thales from France; and UkrOboronProm from Ukraine ranked 49th.
This year's Defense News Top 100 list underscores the global competitiveness of the defense sector and highlights the significant growth and potential of Turkey's defense industry.
