Two additional associates of de Blasio have joined Mamdani's political initiative.
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral nominee, is strengthening his campaign team in preparation for the November general election. The latest additions to Mamdani's team include Louise Yeung and Elana Leopold, both veterans of the de Blasio administration.
Yeung, who previously held the position of Chief Climate Officer in Comptroller Brad Lander's office, has joined Mamdani's campaign as a Policy Director. She brings with her extensive experience in climate policy and resiliency, having worked as Director of Resiliency for the city Department of Transportation from 2019 to 2022.
Leopold, a veteran political strategist with experience in progressive politics, will join Mamdani's campaign as a Senior Adviser. She has a rich history of working in the public sector, having served at de Blasio's City Hall and leading her own firm, as well as being a founding partner of Seneca Strategies. In her new role, Leopold will serve as a liaison to civic, business, and cultural leaders across New York City.
The expansion of Mamdani's campaign staff is part of an effort to build a broader coalition for his vision of a fairer, more inclusive city. Mamdani has been making efforts to find common ground with the business community since the primary election, recognising the importance of building relationships with the city's business community to gain broader support.
Leopold and Yeung are expected to help strengthen and grow this coalition. Leopold will work closely with Mamdani's chief adviser, Elle Bisgaard-Church, and will serve alongside Yeung in her role as Policy Director.
However, Mamdani's progressive proposals have raised concerns among some leaders and stakeholders in the business world. Many backed former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the general election. With the addition of Leopold and Yeung, Mamdani's campaign aims to address these concerns and build bridges with the business community.
As the general election approaches, Mamdani's campaign continues to grow and evolve, with the aim of presenting a unified front and delivering a vision for a fairer, more inclusive New York City.
