Two blazes erupted in Dresden this morning, keeping firefighters occupied.

In an eventful morning on July 31, 2025, the Dresden Fire Department responded to two separate incidents, demonstrating their swift and effective response capabilities.

The first incident occurred at a shopping center located on Peschelstraße, Kaditz, directly opposite the IKEA store. Between 09:55 and 11:30 AM, smoke was detected in a storage room on the first floor. To address this, the fire department dispatched 18 firefighters from the Löbtau and Altstadt fire and rescue stations. Upon arrival, they used a hose and foam to fight the fire.

Due to a lack of water supply, an additional tanker from the Gompitz neighborhood fire station was called in. Fortunately, the fire was contained, and the affected area was limited to two rooms. The shopping center's sales operations were not affected at any time.

Meanwhile, another incident took place at Heideschanze, Coschütz, where a fire occurred on a construction machine. The vehicle operator left the machine in time and was safe, with no injuries reported. The fire involved a "Schaffußwalze", a specific type of construction vehicle. The fire department could not identify any specific hazard, and as of now, a technical defect within a system is suspected as the cause of the smoke.

The terrain at the Heideschanze site was unpaved, causing a delay in the arrival of the firefighters. After the fire was extinguished, the construction machine was checked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera. The incident site was handed over to the building's technical staff for further investigation.

Notably, the incident sites were on a former waste dump of the Wismut company, and the Collmberghalde, where radiation protection expert Dr. Hubert Höllriegl was present. Personnel on site wore dosimeters to measure radioactive radiation doses, and the radiation exposure on site was very low.
