Gun Violence Spikes in Chicago: Multiple Shootings Reported
Chicago, Illinois, has been grappling with a surge in gun violence over the past few days. In a series of disturbing incidents, several individuals have been shot, leaving some in critical condition and claiming one life.
The first shooting was reported just before midnight on Saturday, 11th Street, where a 27-year-old man was shot in the 200 block of West 112th Street. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
At 1:03 a.m. on Sunday, a man and woman, both 35, were shot in the 4400 block of West 5th Avenue. The man sustained a gunshot wound to his right ankle and was in good condition, while the woman was hit four times in the left leg and once in the right leg and was in serious condition.
Tragedy struck again at 1:22 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Trumbull Avenue, where a 17-year-old boy was shot and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition, suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
In a particularly violent incident, a woman was killed and another was hurt in a shooting inside an apartment building in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue. The victims, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed, were taken to the hospital but the 25-year-old woman did not survive.
The shootings continued into the afternoon on Sunday, with two men being shot in the 3700 block of West Huron Street at 4:17 p.m. A 30-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder and left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, while a 28-year-old man was shot in the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
Earlier in the day, at 11:01 a.m. in the 500 block of North Sawyer Avenue, two men, 29 and 32, were shot. The 29-year-old died at Mt. Sinai Hospital, while the 32-year-old was taken there in unknown condition but his condition was stabilized.
No further details were given about the condition of the 43-year-old man shot earlier in the evening.
In all these incidents, no one is in custody, and the identities of the shooters remain unknown. The person of interest in the shooting incident on the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue has not been publicly identified.
