Two individuals without valid driving licenses, suspected of being under the influence, in Dusseldorf's Eller and Benrath areas.
In an incident that took place on Börchenstraße, Benrath, on Wednesday (12.2.), a police chase ensued involving an Audi A6 that initially refused to stop for a traffic violation. The driver, a 43-year-old individual, was later identified as being known to the police.
During the chase, the driver disregarded traffic rules, running red lights, nearly hitting pedestrians, and performing dangerous overtaking maneuvers at high speed. The chase ended in Monheim, where the driver lost control of his car and crashed into a lamppost, causing a collision with another vehicle.
Upon stopping the car, the police detected a strong smell of alcohol. A breathalyzer test was administered, and the result showed a reading of over one per mille. The 43-year-old admitted to drinking alcohol. Furthermore, a drug test conducted at the Wersten police station was positive.
The driver of the Peugeot 206, a 20-year-old known to the police, was also in the car during the incident. The passenger in the Peugeot was also not sober, as further investigation revealed that he did not have a valid driver's license.
The car involved in the potential collision on Karlsruhe Straße early Thursday morning (13.2.) was the Peugeot 206. However, the 43-year-old who drove under the influence and without a driver's license on Karlsruhe Street in Eller on Tuesday morning has not been identified or named in the available news reports.
The vehicle was seized as evidence, and the men were released, with the investigation ongoing. It was also found that the Audi A6 had no insurance and should not have been driven.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The police urge drivers to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations for the safety of all road users.
