Two Street Names: Exter Street and Curved Street

In the heart of Detmold, urban development is a hot topic. Mayor Frank Hilker has announced that the development of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße is a major concern, particularly in light of the city's ongoing growth.

One of the key issues at hand is the construction of a new parking garage at the Hornsches Tor and a potential parking deck in the new town. According to recent reports, this construction might not allow a decision on Exterstraße/Krumme Straße until 2029 at the earliest. This potential delay has raised concerns, with the mayor suggesting that it may be against expert knowledge or a distraction from other important urban development projects, such as the Klingemann settlement.

The Institute for Retail Research Cologne recently presented Europe's largest urban study, emphasising the need for multifunctional thinking and action in urban development. Markus Baier, from the Institute, presented this study last weekend in Detmold. The study underscores the importance of considering all aspects of urban development, including parking solutions, accessibility, and the creation of new attractions.

Two new attractions in Detmold are the Mode- and Sports House Klingemann from Höxter and the RoofTop Bar at the Hornsches Tor. These additions have brought new life to the city and are part of the broader urban development strategy.

As for parking solutions, the mayor emphasises the need for sufficient replacement parking spaces in the city centre and a parking guidance system before coordinating building measures and the renovation of the upper section of Lange Straße. The trade association echoes this sentiment, suggesting the maintenance of the 30-minute parking zone and creating a unique entry and exit option for older and mobility-restricted individuals at the city centre. They also propose establishing the first city-wide pick-up and drop-off zone for mobility-restricted persons in Exterstraße/Krumme Straße.

A faction of the Detmold city council has proposed considering Exterstraße/Krumme Straße in isolation, which is incomprehensible against the background of multifunctional urban development. The mayor and the chairman of the trade association anticipate multiple unforeseeable developments, as per the assessment of urban experts at IFH Cologne.

The next step in urban development at Exterstraße/Krumme Straße will involve moving the jointly established free short-term parking spaces from the Hornsches Tor. This move is part of a larger strategy to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the creation of a more accessible and vibrant city centre.

In conclusion, the development of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße and the Hornsches Tor is a complex issue, requiring careful consideration and a multifunctional approach. The city of Detmold continues to grow and evolve, and its urban development strategies must reflect this growth and the needs of its citizens.
