Two suspected individuals were reportedly involved in burglaries of shops in Cologne-Mülheim region.
In the heart of the Mülheim district, Frankfurt Street witnessed a series of failed robberies on Saturday morning, 2nd August. The incidents, which occurred at an electronics store and a nearby household goods store, left the community in shock.
A 31-year-old suspect, previously convicted, was temporarily arrested on the same street shortly after the incidents. The arrest was facilitated by private video footage that captured the suspect's actions during both incidents.
The day began with the suspect threatening an employee (34 years old) of the electronics store around 11 am, demanding the day's earnings. The police were called, and the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.
Later, the suspect attempted a robbery at a household goods store, where the owner (37 years old) was threatened unsuccessfully. The suspect, once again, left without any loot.
Officers were able to quickly identify the suspect, aged 31, based on private camera footage from both incidents. The suspect was located nearby and was taken into custody.
Despite the suspect's attempts, both businesses on Frankfurt Street managed to thwart the robberies. The electronics store and the household goods store, staples of the Mülheim district, remain open and operational.
The judge made the decision to send the suspect to jail on Sunday (3rd August). The identity of the suspect remains undisclosed in the provided information.
The community of Mülheim can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the suspect is in custody and the streets are safe once more. The police continue to investigate the incidents and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the district.
