The Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) reported a rise in counterintelligence and insider threat concerns last year, with over 32,000 suspicious contact reports received. Among these, around 3,000 to 4,000 were considered serious. The agency emphasised the need for agencies to identify the primary cause of their Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) backlog and set goals to reduce the number of overdue requests.

In a bid to tackle this issue, the Justice Department's Office of Information Policy released guidance on reducing FOIA backlogs. They highlighted that effective backlog reduction plans require leadership support and employee buy-in. The Office of Information Policy also pointed out that agencies need to address the root causes of their backlogs to make significant improvements.

Meanwhile, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) continues to support service members and veterans with its Home Loan Guaranty Program. Originating in 1944 as part of the G.I. Bill of Rights, the program has guaranteed over 29 million home loans for veterans. As of now, more than 4 million service members and veterans have active home loans guaranteed by the VA. The VA's Home Loan Guaranty Program has issued over $4 trillion dollars in loans, a testament to its enduring impact.

The VA's commitment to its home loan program is not the only significant development. DCSA Director David Cattler spoke about new steps to deploy insider threat representatives at Defense Department commands, insider threat hubs, and installations nationwide. These measures aim to strengthen the agency's insider threat detection and response capabilities.

Lastly, the General Services Administration (GSA) is considering expanding its OASIS+ multiple award contract to five potential domains: Financial Services, Human Capital, Marketing and Public Relations, Social Services, and Business Administration. This move is expected to streamline the procurement process and provide greater flexibility for government agencies.
