U.S. Senator Katie Britt has given her support to Representative Rhett Marques in the District 1 election campaign.
U.S. Senator Katie Britt Endorses and Supports Rhett Marques in Alabama's 1st Congressional District Race
In a significant move for the upcoming Republican primary, U.S. Senator Katie Britt has endorsed and offered financial support to state Representative Rhett Marques, who is running for Alabama's 1st Congressional District.
Senator Britt, known as one of Alabama's most prominent politicians, has shown her confidence in Marques by contributing $10,000 from her Alabama First leadership PAC to his campaign. This donation, according to federal rules, represents the maximum contribution allowed.
Britt described Marques as a great friend, a strong conservative fighter, and a candidate who understands the district due to his deep roots there. She expressed excitement about the fresh leadership Marques is bringing to the table, and believes the First Congressional District will thrive with Marques at the helm.
The endorsement and contribution, made on Thursday, comes as a clear sign of Britt's intent to help position Marques as the frontrunner in the race. This support gives Marques a boost as he begins building his campaign war chest.
Representative Barry Moore, who previously represented the 1st Congressional District, is not seeking another House term and is instead pursuing a run for U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville's seat in the U.S. Senate. This leaves the field open for new candidates, including Marques and former Congressman Jerry Carl, who will also be vying for the Republican primary.
Marques, a representative from Enterprise, Alabama, was born and raised in Baldwin County and is now raising a family in the Wiregrass. He has been supported by Representative Mo Brooks in the primary, with Brooks providing significant financial support to his campaign.
Britt also praised Marques for having her back and President Trump's. This political signal to donors and voters indicates that Marques has the trust of one of Alabama's most influential figures.
