U.S. Stocks Now Available for Investment through Tokenization via Ondo Finance
Ondo Finance has entered the tokenized equity market with the launch of its new platform, Ondo Global Markets. The platform, which went live on September 3, aims to provide international investors with regulated and accessible investment opportunities in the American financial markets.
Ondo Global Markets has partnered with a range of infrastructure and service providers, including BitGo, Ledger, Chainlink, Trust Wallet, OKX Wallet, Gate, Blockchain.com, MEXC, LBank, 1inch, CoW Protocol, Alpaca, LayerZero, Morpho, Gauntlet, Fireblocks, and more. These collaborations will help create a secure and efficient platform for trading tokenized stocks.
The platform operates on the Ethereum blockchain and offers continuous transfer capability, subject to jurisdictional rules. It provides non-U.S. investors access to over 100 American stocks and ETFs, including tokenized products that mirror the real-time performance of their underlying assets. For example, NVDAon tracks Nvidia shares, while GOOGLon represents Alphabet shares.
Ondo's aggressive expansion plans include listing over 1,000 assets by the end of 2025 and extending services to the Solana blockchain. The platform also aims to use interoperability solutions such as LayerZero to enable cross-chain transactions.
Following the launch, Ondo's native token ONDO recorded a 4% price rise, trading at $0.96. The tokenized products on the platform are designed to behave similarly to stablecoins, allowing transfers between wallets and integration into DeFi protocols. They also provide exposure to the total economic return of securities.
The securities supporting these tokens are held by U.S.-registered broker-dealers, ensuring a high level of regulatory compliance. The platform reduces barriers for international investors seeking stable and regulated access to American financial markets.
One of the first movers offering tokenized U.S. equities at scale, Ondo Global Markets operates on a 24/5 basis, allowing participants to mint and redeem tokenized shares of major U.S. companies and funds on trading days. The platform extends blockchain-based investment opportunities beyond stablecoins and tokenized treasuries.
However, the platform remains closed to U.S. residents due to regulatory restrictions. In a recent development, GOOGLon, the tokenized representation of Alphabet shares on the platform, registered a 10% increase in value following a favorable court ruling for Google in an antitrust case. This positive market reaction underscores the potential of tokenized equity platforms like Ondo Global Markets.
