U.S. Tennis Association requests exclusion of disturbances during broadcast of President Donald Trump at US Open
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has made a request to US Open broadcasters to refrain from showing disruptions during President Donald Trump's appearance at the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
According to a memo circulated to US Open broadcasters, the USTA has asked all broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in ENG coverage. This request applies to both the World Feed and the Ashe Court Feed.
The USTA has previously made similar requests during the US Open, asking broadcasters to refrain from showing off-court disruptions. This is not the first time a sitting US President has attended the annual tennis event. Former President Bill Clinton attended the women's final between Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport in 2000, making him the first sitting president to attend the fourth grand slam of the year.
President Trump's appearance at the 2025 US Open final marks the first time in 25 years that a sitting US President has attended the event. Trump has previously attended matches at the US Open, with his last appearance being at the 2015 quarter-final match-up between Venus and Serena Williams. During his last appearance, Trump was booed by the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
However, it seems Sky Sports did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding their coverage of the US Open final. ESPN, on the other hand, plans to cover play on court and show Trump's attendance during the US Open final.
It's worth noting that President Trump will appear on the Arthur Ashe feed during the opening ceremony of the US Open final, and his appearance will include a rendition of the US national anthem. Clinton and Trump reportedly shared a cordial conversation during their meeting at the US Open.
Tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg of online outlet Bounces was the first to report on the memo outlining these requests. Multiple publications have since viewed the memo.
The USTA has not responded to a request about any potential requests from the White House about tinkering with its coverage of Trump. It remains to be seen how broadcasters will handle these requests during the US Open final.
