UFC fighter Alex Pereira confesses to fabricating hack claims, admitting it was a miscommunication following his hinted retirement announcement in May.

Former UFC two-division champion Alex Pereira has been in the limelight recently due to a tweet he posted in May, expressing his dissatisfaction with the UFC. The tweet, which stated that he might stop fighting due to a communication issue with the UFC, has caused a stir in the MMA community.

According to Pereira's coach and interpreter, Plinio Cruz, the tweet was "a little impulsive." Cruz clarified Pereira's sentiments on "The Ariel Helwani Show," explaining that the miscommunication between Pereira, his camp, and the UFC was the root cause of the tweet.

Pereira regretted posting the tweet as he was not aware that negotiations for the fight were ongoing. The longest gap between Pereira's fights since signing with the UFC was the seven-month gap between his two fights against Magomed Ankalaev. However, Pereira was promised a next title challenge by the UFC after his fight, which he expected to be immediate following his loss to Ankalaev.

The fight between Pereira and Ankalaev is officially set to headline UFC 320 on Oct. 4. The miscommunication between Pereira, his camp, and the UFC was the cause of Pereira's tweet, but the name of Pereira's manager who communicated with the UFC regarding the delay of his next title defense is not explicitly mentioned in the search results.

Pereira's coach, Cruz, stated that Pereira acted early because he did not talk to their manager or find out from UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell. Pereira was disheartened earlier this year, revealing he had been mulling over retirement. However, his recent break from fighting was intended to allow him to recharge and heal injuries.

Pereira had a very active schedule relative to most UFC champions, fighting three times annually since 2022 and defending his title four times in 13 months. This intense schedule might have contributed to the miscommunication and Pereira's dissatisfaction.

It was initially reported that Pereira's account was hacked, but he later admitted to posting the tweet himself. Pereira was "a little bit hurt" because he was promised the next title shot but found out about the potential fight through social media and not directly from the UFC.

Despite the recent mishap, Pereira is set to return to the octagon and face Ankalaev in a highly anticipated rematch. The fight will determine who will be crowned the undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion.
