Ukrainian authorities announce the successful retrieval of children from territories under Russian control

In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, several significant events have transpired over the past few days.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on domestic industry to develop new engines for carrier rockets, potentially indicating a focus on advancing Russia's military capabilities. Meanwhile, CDU/CSU parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn has advocated for financial support for French and British nuclear weapons arsenals, reflecting a broader international interest in maintaining a balance of power.

Ukraine has reported a series of military successes, including the rescue of four soldiers who had been hiding in Russian-occupied territory for over three years. Additionally, Ukrainian military intelligence claims to have destroyed a Russian radar system in the Black Sea, along with a boat and an electronic warfare station. The Ukrainian General Staff reports 960 losses of Russian forces in the past 24 hours, suggesting a continued military pressure on the invading forces.

In a positive development, a large group of Ukrainian children has been rescued from Russian-occupied territories, according to the Ukrainian Presidential Administration. Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been in discussions with US President Donald Trump, who is working on security guarantees for Ukraine intended to contribute to ending the war with Russia.

Internationally, at least 26 countries, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, are ready to send soldiers as part of a force to secure peace in Ukraine if there is a ceasefire. These countries have committed to deploying troops on land, sea, or air to support such an operation, though the specific countries were not listed publicly. German politicians, including Markus Söder, CSU chairman, have also called for discussions on sending fit Ukrainians back to their homeland to ensure security in their own country.

However, challenges remain. Details of the guarantees for Ukraine against a new Russian attack in the event of a ceasefire are still not finalized. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has criticized President Zelensky for describing Hungary's rejection of Ukraine's EU membership as "strange." Additionally, Russian air strikes on Ukrainian territory have resulted in casualties, with at least six people killed and eleven injured.

On the diplomatic front, Putin has invited Zelenskyy to Moscow for talks, but Zelenskyy has yet to accept the invitation. Trump has also spoken with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regarding Ukraine, following a phone call with Putin.

In other news, RWE CEO Markus Krebber has cautiously commented on a possible restart of the Nord Stream pipelines, stating that it is ultimately a political question.

Lastly, US President Trump expects the release of many political prisoners in Belarus, offering a glimmer of hope for those affected by the ongoing political turmoil in the region.
