Zelenskyy announces India's readiness to transmit a message before a significant encounter with Putin during the SCO Summit in China, as disclosed to PM Modi.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy communicates to Indian Prime Minister Modi that Ukraine is prepared to transmit a significant message before their strategic meeting with Russian President Putin at the SCO Summit in China.

In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine held their second call this August on Monday, 31st August. The conversation was marked by discussions on the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict and the state of India-Ukraine bilateral partnership.

During the call, President Zelenskyy shared details of his recent discussions with world leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, US President Trump, and European leaders. The conversation came amidst global markets' unsettled state due to President Trump's sweeping tariffs, which have had economic repercussions for India, China, and Russia.

President Zelenskyy urged international leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, to use their influence to press Russia to end the war at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. He emphasised the necessity of a ceasefire as a prerequisite for peace talks. The SCO summit is scheduled to take place soon, with Prime Minister Modi set to meet Russian President Putin there.

The leaders also reviewed the India-Ukraine bilateral partnership. They discussed plans for high-level visits and the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. The last in-person meeting between the two leaders took place during the G7 Summit in Hiroshima in May 2023.

The trilateral engagement between PM Modi, President Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin is described as a significant moment due to escalating trade tensions with the United States. During the call, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness for direct talks with Putin.

This conversation between the two leaders underscores the importance of India's role in global affairs and its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, it is expected that India will continue to engage actively with all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
